State-based resources for brain health, caregiving and support

The Alzheimer’s Association chapter provides education, a helpline, and culturally tailored outreach for Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander families.

This connects families on the islands to ADRCs, respite services, and available Medicaid waivers.

The faith-based nonprofit serves Asian and Pacific Islander elders with respite, transportation, and volunteer caregivers. It also offers training for caregivers, information, and non-medical supports covering instrumental activities of daily living (IADLs) for seniors in Hawaii.

Catholic Charities Hawai‘i offers information on information on Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias, as well as supports for aging. It notes that those with dementia may be able to receive benefits from its multi-purpose services as well as specific programs like the Hawaii Circle of Care for Dementia.

The UH Center on Aging (COA) supports the well-being of older adults through efforts in research, educational programs, and service to the community. It has dementia-friendly resources on-site, fact sheets, and can point residents to services based on their location and other needs.

A good place for broad educational resources, Papa Ola Lōkahi’s program created a road map for how Native Hawaiian communities are impacted by dementia and helps plan culturally grounded responses with community leaders. The non-profit creates reports on different ADRD needs and practices based on community location.

HADI works to strengthen dementia-capability in communities, raise awareness, and empower caregivers across Hawaiʻi. It has materials on common questions, early detection, caregiving, and resources for children. It also lists support groups and upcoming events for both people with Alzheimer's and their caregivers.

The network offers caregiver support groups, webinars, classes, and annual conferences to connect caregivers across West Hawaiʻi. Many resources are grouped by impact or disease state, such as aging and dementia.

Alu Like provides support, referrals, caregiver training, and respite for Native Hawaiian family caregivers and elders at no cost. Participants must be family caregivers of Native Hawaiian elders ages 60 and older who are unable to be left alone.

Hale Hau’oli Hawaiʻi offers caregiver support on Oʻahu, including services like adult days out rooted in local values and cultural context, to assist elders and their family caregivers. Support groups, counseling, and workshops are available in various locations on Hawai'i.

The Commission coordinates AAAs, respite, and Medicaid/HCBS waivers and other dementia-capable supports statewide. It covers a variety of educational materials as well.

The Idaho chapter provides support groups, education, and 24/7 helpline access for caregivers and individuals living with Alzheimer’s and dementia.

The Commission on Hispanic Affairs offers bilingual outreach and education for Latino community members. Services and support vary by time of year and ongoing programs, so it encourages people to contact it for different needs and connections to services.

This Community Care Program offers case management, advocacy, caregiver education, and referrals to support services for people caring for those with memory loss. It is run by the Southwest Idaho Area Agency on Aging and can help people in other parts of the states also find the right group to contact for local services.

The ICA is a statewide caregiver organization offering resource referrals, advocacy, caregiver workshops, and bilingual tools. It includes a partnership with the Family Caregiver Navigator to provide free, low-barrier, and remote service and resource referral services for caregivers across the lifespan.

The state's ADRD program spearheads the ADRD Alliance, publishes strategic plans, offers awareness and caregiver support tools including risk-reduction materials.

The Department runs the Community Care Program, which provides caregiver support and respite services among other aging-services across Illinois. Citizens can use online tools or the senior helpline to find local services, including support for Medicaid coverage and other insurance counseling services.

Dementia Friendly America offers some memory cafes in Boise, Kuna, and other parts of Idaho. The organization also has a variety of educational and caregiving resources.

The Illinois chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association offers statewide education, a 24/7 helpline, support groups, and care navigation services.

This tool connects Illinoisans to Area Agencies on Aging / ADRCs, respite services, and Medicaid home-and-community-based supports.

Illinois Brain Health Project offers a variety of brain health resources and educational materials. Specific to Alzheimer's and dementia, it includes tools for risk reduction, creating healthy habits, and how to spot and understand Alzheimer's disease and other related dementia.

The State runs Alzheimer’s & Dementia programs including the Latino Alzheimer’s & Memory Disorders Alliance, dementia friendly community efforts, and public health awareness. The Illinois Respite Coalition (IRC) is a not-for-profit organization of caregivers and respite providers dedicated to advocating support for families by ensuring access to quality respite services for the residents of Illinois. Caregivers can find local support, information on stipends, training, and resources for self advocacy.

The group offers video and text resources to help people understand and live with dementia. You can learn about stages of Alzheimer's, warning signs, risk factors, research, treatment, and more. It also helps people find dementia care resources and service providers near them using Chicago 211 and other local referral tools.
